The Angel Vaults Inn - Hitchen

Visited 26th September 2015.

Once again we had a decent bit of weather so it was on the bike and off to a pub. This time Hitchen had made it to the top of the list and after about an hour I was walking in the door. It was a nice looking pub, recently opened and pretty busy. It was also a lot bigger inside than it appeared from the outside with the added benefit of a very nice beer garden. After a long wait at the bar I was eventually served a small Pepsi and a bag of salt and vinegar crisps which I took out into the garden to consume. All in all I liked this pub despite the wait at the bar. After leaving I had a quick look around the town which also seemed like a very nice place and then it was back to the bike and on towards the second pub of the day .

The Denmead Queen - Waterlooville

Visited 11th July 2015.

This is turning into a very busy year and I don't seem to have a lot of time for pub visiting so I thought I would make a special effort and get out on the bike in the sunshine. The plan was to visit Portsmouth and spend the day there having a look round and generally checking out the "sights". My bike has a sat nav built on to it although the maps have not been updated for some time but Portsmouth has been where it is for a long time as have most of the roads to so just this once I decided to put Mrs Google Nav in my pocket and go "old school". As it turned out this was a big mistake and for some reason I ended up seeing a huge number of single track roads and more than my fair share of tractors so it was with some relief when I finally reached my first destination of the day in Waterlooville.
I parked up, went in and ordered a half of Doombar and a Philly cheesesteak. By now I had already made the decision that this would be the only pub visited today as I had wasted so much time in the morning running errands and in the afternoon following the rogue sat nav that I after having a walk round Waterlooville I would run out of day! Anyway, back to the pub, I had no problems getting served or getting a table even though the pub was moderately busy. My food arrived quickly and I was bitterly disappointed. It was only a few weeks ago that I was in Philadelphia and had a proper Philly cheesesteak and this was nothing like a proper Philly cheesesteak, more like a steak roll. After a walk around the town it was back on the bike and home again, I'll just have to save Portsmouth for another day!

The Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis - Southampton

Visited 18th April 2015.

I don't know why but I seemed to have a bit of a blind spot in finding the last pub of my Southampton adventure and ended up having to ask where it was and then having it pointed out that I had
managed to ride straight past it and completely missed it. Having finally made it inside it turned out to be, architecturally speaking, my favourite pub of the day. I was a bit of a maze inside, small but with high ceilings making it feel larger. On the downside it was easily the busiest pub of the day and it seemed to take an age to get served with my Orange and Passion fruit J20. And then it was time to head back home, until the next time.

The Standing Order - Southampton

Visited 18th April 2015.

It turned out to be only a short ride to the third pub and I managed to park near a park. As it turned out I could have parked a lot closer but Mrs SatNav wasn't in a very helpful mood. I ended up with a bit of a walk and very quickly started heating up in my heavy jacket so it was with great relief that when I eventually entered the pub it was nice and cool. I ordered a pint of Pepsi this time and although the pub was busy I was once again served quickly. I sat and drank and cooled off and it wasn't long before I felt ready to tackle the walk to the final pub on my list for the day. I set off walking guided by the none to subtle voice of Mrs SatNav but was disappointed upon reaching the target post code and then being unable to find the pub. I was of course feeling very hot again by now so I asked the only person I could see for directions. As it turned out I was still about a fifteen minute walk away so I decided to return to the bike and have another short ride, but somehow I managed to miss a turning and ended up with a longer ride than expected!

The Giddy Bridge - Southampton

Visited 18th April 2015.

The second pub of the day, in contrast to the first one I visited, was wide but didn't go back very far at all. Again, it was reasonably bust without feeling crowded and I had no problems getting served my large latte. I had a chat with the barman to find out how far away and how long it might take to walk to the remaining two pubs I intended to visit. In the end I decided to return to the bike and go find the next one, after all it was meant to be a riding day.

The Bright Water Inn - Shirley

Visited 18th April 2015.

The sun has appeared once again, so once again I'm out on the bike. Today Southampton is going to feel the full force of my presence and the first pub to feel that force is in Shirley. The pub was fairly busy but I was served my regular Pepsi quickly and found somewhere to sit down without any problem. The pub was narrow but went back a long way and had been decorated in a standard 'spoons style. Then it was back to the bike and and on to the next.

The Ivy House - Alton

Visited 7th March 2015.

The sun has come out to play, so it's time to get the bike out. The big question, will it start? The answer, surprisingly is yes so I climb on and it's off to Alton. Basingstoke slowed me down a bit as it turned out to be full of roadworks but the road between Basingstoke and Alton was a lovely ride. I managed to find the pub without any trouble and handily there was a car park opposite. The pub was very busy and I ended up sitting outside to drink my pint of Pepsi. The pub was a decent size and seemed to consist of lots of little rooms and alcoves even to the point of sticking a table in the corridor under the stairs. The temperature was starting to drop a little so it was time to head back home, remembering to avoid Basingstoke! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Sir Norman Wisdom - Deal

Visited 27th February 2015.

The second pub of the day was a much more modern affair. It was another busy pub but this didn't stop us from getting a table and it being a Friday ordering the fish along with a Pepsi for me with Mrs S. opting for a jacket potato with pulled pork. The pub itself was a decent size and very bright and the toilets are worth a look. Lunch over and it's on to Margate for a party weekend.

The Eight Bells - Dover

Visited 27th February 2015.

Well, it's that time of year when we pack our bags and head off down to Margate for our long weekend away. And, as usual I have planned a visit to a couple of Wetherspoons to coincide with the trip. The first pub of the day is The Eight Bells in Dover, which we reached with no problems despite a fairly heavy but constantly moving trip around the M25. We found a car park only a short walk from the pub and it was only upon entering the pub that we ran into a problem. It was surprisingly busy for a Friday lunchtime to the point that we couldn't, at first find anywhere to sit. I'm not sure how the ladies did it but by the time we had finished at the bar we had a table. After a pint of Pepsi for me and a Malibu and Pepsi for Mrs S. there was time for a quick look round and then back to car and on to the next pub.

The Flying Chariot - Hounslow (Heathrow Terminal 2 Landside)

Visited 9th January2015.

I'm off to Mexico today! Sadly it's not as exciting as I would have liked as I will be working out there but at least it will be warm. I had to be at the airport quite early and had totally forgotten to check to see if there might be a Wetherspoon to welcome me so it came as quite a surprise to see one as soon as I walked in to Terminal 2. At that time of the morning I was the only person at the bar so there was no delay at all with the pouring of my half of Doom Bar. It might have been early but at least the day was starting on the right note!
