The Glass Maker - Nailsea

Visited 23rd March 2013.

We were invited to stay for the weekend in Exeter by a friend who has just bought a house there. The last time we were in Exeter we were visiting her while she was studying at the University there and following the completion of her exams like the city so much she decided to stay. Since we were last there Wetherspoons have opened another pub so it was a chance to catch to again. We left home in the snow and ran into a bit of a blizzard. It continued for several M4 junctions but eventually died away a bit before Bristol. We made it onto the M5 and then turned off to head towards Nailsea where there was the first of the 'spoons on my weekend list. With
about a mile to go two deer shot out of a hedgerow. The lead one made it but the second was not so lucky. Despite some intense braking by Mrs S. we did not manage to stop in time and the deer bounced off the front of the car and sat stunned in the middle of the road. I got out and walked round to the front of the car, by which time the deer had got up and ran back through the hedge into some woods beyond, leaving us with a dented car and a smashed indicator. We made the last mile into Nailsea where we parked up and went looking for the pub which turned out to be pretty easy to find. It was warm and busy inside but we were able to get a table with no problem and the service at the bar was quick, as was the arrival of our breakfast. The pub was of a modern design was comfortable and felt lived in. We sat eating our eggs Benedict and drinking our lattes while forming a repair plan.
As it turned out the repair plan didn't amount to much, basically it was find a hardware shop, buy Gaffa tape and some clear plastic and cover the broken lens to stop it getting wet as the bulb was coloured and still worked. We found a hardware shop, bought the stuff, made some temporary repairs and were swiftly back on the road.
