It's been a bit quiet this weekend, one of those weekends where we really haven't felt like doing much apart from vegging out. We also don't feel like cooking and are getting hungry so I have proposed a short road-trip. A new Wetherspoons opened last month in Aldershot so that automatically makes it to top of the list. About forty minutes later and we are looking for somewhere to park. This is where we find out that there are not very many free places to park in Aldershot even on a Sunday so when we eventually find a bit of free parking we are left with a bit of a walk to the pub. But the weather is dry and the walk just helps build our appetites. It turns out that the pub is very busy with lots of people eating but we manage to get a table and I am swiftly dispatched to the bar to order our fare. I order a mixed grill with a pint of one of the guest ales and for Mrs S. a jacket potato with the BBQ pulled pork filling and a pint of Pepsi. Our food took about twenty minutes to arrive but considering how busy it was that was pretty quick. We stayed a while after finishing our food, mainly to give us time to mentally prepare ourselves for the walk back to the car, which as it turned out didn't seem to be as far walking back, possibly as we knew where we were going! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Our final 'spoons of the trip was 'The Goodman's Field'. Regular readers will have noticed that so far I have not mentioned Mrs SatNav, that will now to be rectified. The nearest tube station on the Hammersmith & City line to the pub is Aldgate East which isn't to far away from the pub. Sadly we didn't know the way so we turned the route navigation over to Mrs SatNav who promptly took us in the wrong direction (we eventually realised) so the walk to the pub was a lot longer than it needed to be. But we made it, finally. The pub felt as though it was one of the smaller 'spoons we have visited but it was doing a brisk trade in breakfasts and the place was pretty full. Still full from our breakfasts and pretty much coffee'd out we opted instead for a small Pepsi each. We finished up and left, taking a much more direct route back to the tube station where we once again went in search of a member of staff to let us through the barriers. Next stop Paddington where we found we had a half hour wait for the next train to take us home. For me 'The Half Moon' was the pub of the day but Mrs S. preferred 'The Goodman's Field', yesterday's pub of the day was probably 'The Rocket' for the view over the Thames. Highlight of the weekend had to be the bit off Brazilian style beef we had at the BBQ on Saturday night - delicious.

We have been invited to a BBQ at a friends, a perfect excuse to trundle into London and visit a few pubs. So, after checking the maps and the Transport For London (TFL) website we walked to the station, ran for the platform and sat for the ride to Paddington. The first pub on our list was in Putney, nearest tube station, Putney Bridge. This meant that we would have to talk a stroll over the bridge, not the sort of thing Mrs S. enjoys. If she can see water from a bridge she starts to get a bit nervous but she made it across by staring at the sky and holding my hand. I didn't feel it prudent to tell her we would have to walk back over it, at least not until she'd had her first latte of the day. I thought I would start the day as I meant to go on and had a Buffalo Trace and Pepsi. It was modern and dark inside, at least at the end of the bar where we were served but as the sun was shining we thought we would find a table overlooking the river and catch a few rays. After finishing our beverages, it was back across the bridge to the tube station and on to Wimbledon for the second pub of the day.

Work has sent me back up North today, which gives me the opportunity to stop off in Northampton on the way back. I persuade my colleague that we should stop somewhere and have some lunch before we enter the hell that is the English motorway network. He agrees and 'pure chance' ensures that we end up at a 'spoons. The pub is situated opposite a market which is in full swing thus when we enter the pub we find that it is very busy and there is a certain amount of waiting around to get served. I do a quick 'reccy' of the pub, checking out the upstairs dining area but only manage to find one spare table which we quickly sit at. We both opt for the gourmet burgers but are told there is no cheese sauce and would we like BBQ instead. Yes! Whilst sipping my pint of Sporran Warmer a waitress appears - disaster, they have no buns, would we like the burger served in ciabatta bread instead. Yes! Well, it worked for us. Suitably refreshed we now felt we could tackle anything, including what turned out to be a three hour (instead of one and three quarter hour) drive home.
