The Silk Kite - Tamworth

Visited 12th May 2012.

We walked from 'The Bole Bridge' in to the town where there was a fair sized market in full swing. We meandered past the various stalls until arriving at 'The Silk Kite'. A complete contrast to the previous pub in looks, it felt a lot smaller and was a lot darker inside. It was very busy and initially we thought we were going to have to sit on some high stools that surrounded the dance floor but then Mrs S. with her eagle vision spotted an empty table. We were a blur as we made our way across the pub and were soon sat down on seats where our feet could reach the floor. I went to the bar and ordered a Buffalo Trace and Pepsi for myself and a Malibu and Pepsi for Mrs S. We did a little people watching while we sat and drank but ended up not staying long as Mrs S. was keen to get back out to the market, she was on the hunt for a keyring. As it turned out she was unable to find one and I was the only one of us to actually buy anything, would you believe it? We headed back to the car with me wondering how I could persuade Mrs S. to carry the very large G-clamp that I had bought. We were still discussing it and I was still carrying it when we arrived back at the car. According to Google the next pub on our list was six and a half miles away, shouldn't take to long to get there then.

The Albany Palace - Trowbridge

Visited 10th December 2011.

After eventually getting out of Bath we saw some countryside en route to Trowbridge, actually quite a lot of countryside, it seemed to take forever to get there. The never ending journey did eventually complete and after parking up and taking a short walk in to town we found 'The Albany Palace'. We took a couple of photos and then entered in to a large, dark space. We had no trouble finding somewhere to sit as it was not very busy but even so the booth we sat in had not had it's table cleared of food plates and wasn't cleared during our visit. Mrs S. once again opted for a large latte while I ordered a Buffalo Trace and Pepsi. There is a small dance floor with a large mirror ball overhead, although the floor was covered by tables while we were there. It looked as though the place could get a bit lively. Asking at the bar we were told that the 'Sir Isaac Pitman', our next stop, was just around the corner, so drinks finished off we set
.

The Sir John Oldcastle - London, Farringdon

Visited 17th July 2010.

As is usual when I visit London I don't always stick exclusively to Wetherspoons pubs so the next pub on our my list was somewhere slightly different. Well, different for Mrs S. who had never visited a pole dancing establishment before today. The walk to 'The Griffin' produced a small drama as we thought we were about to view an accident as a man who was a little way off from us was almost knocked down by a police car with its blue light flashing. As we got closer we realised that the man was actually on the pavement and that the police car had mounted the path and that two officers had rapidly emerged from the car and were attempted to detain the very bewildered looking man. We stood and watched for a few seconds but then thought we would get out of the way as there suddenly seemed to be a plethora of police vehicles arriving. I wonder what that was all about!

Shank's pony eventually took us passed 'The Sir John Oldcastle' and eventually on to the surprised tones of a doorman informing Mrs S. that there
were fully nude ladies inside. And he was quite right, there were. Not sure why but after a pint and four dances Mrs S. announced that she was ready for pudding so it was time to make our exit and walk back to Sir John's. I liked the place, the staff were attentive, our puddings arrived quickly and were not overcooked and we ended up staying slightly longer then planned. This was unfortunate as by the time we left and had walked to our next destination, 'The Knights Templar', it was closed!

Oh dear, we will have to make a return visit to the Holborn area...

The Mechanical Elephant - Margate

Visited 26th February 2010.

Today is the day of the dance but we have a whole day to kill until dinner. Traditionally the girls go shopping and the boys head to the pub. We decide to embrace tradition with open arms. As it was still early (about 11.30am) a decision was made not to bloat ourselves up with pints. In retrospect an afternoon spent drinking double buffalo trace and coke was probably not the best idea ever (but it did mean that I was first on the dance floor three hours later). A strange name for a pub but having visited it once a year for the past six years I can say it has plenty of character and an upstairs bar and balcony from which it was fun to watch motorbikes racing on the beach a couple of years back. Long may this tradition continue.
