The Ivy House - Alton

Visited 7th March 2015.

The sun has come out to play, so it's time to get the bike out. The big question, will it start? The answer, surprisingly is yes so I climb on and it's off to Alton. Basingstoke slowed me down a bit as it turned out to be full of roadworks but the road between Basingstoke and Alton was a lovely ride. I managed to find the pub without any trouble and handily there was a car park opposite. The pub was very busy and I ended up sitting outside to drink my pint of Pepsi. The pub was a decent size and seemed to consist of lots of little rooms and alcoves even to the point of sticking a table in the corridor under the stairs. The temperature was starting to drop a little so it was time to head back home, remembering to avoid Basingstoke! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Sir Norman Wisdom - Deal

Visited 27th February 2015.

The second pub of the day was a much more modern affair. It was another busy pub but this didn't stop us from getting a table and it being a Friday ordering the fish along with a Pepsi for me with Mrs S. opting for a jacket potato with pulled pork. The pub itself was a decent size and very bright and the toilets are worth a look. Lunch over and it's on to Margate for a party weekend.

The Eight Bells - Dover

Visited 27th February 2015.

Well, it's that time of year when we pack our bags and head off down to Margate for our long weekend away. And, as usual I have planned a visit to a couple of Wetherspoons to coincide with the trip. The first pub of the day is The Eight Bells in Dover, which we reached with no problems despite a fairly heavy but constantly moving trip around the M25. We found a car park only a short walk from the pub and it was only upon entering the pub that we ran into a problem. It was surprisingly busy for a Friday lunchtime to the point that we couldn't, at first find anywhere to sit. I'm not sure how the ladies did it but by the time we had finished at the bar we had a table. After a pint of Pepsi for me and a Malibu and Pepsi for Mrs S. there was time for a quick look round and then back to car and on to the next pub.
