A new 'spoons has recently opened only a few miles away. It is at a motorway service and has made the news and sparked a little controversy over pubs on motorways. I felt it was time to pay it a visit so Mrs S. and I jumped in the car and hit the road. Twenty minutes later and we were parked up and taking a look around and a few minutes after that we were sat down in the 'spoons looking at the menu. I had the Chilli dog and Mrs S. the nachos and both of us had a large Pepsi each. The food arrived quickly, the staff were attentive and after we were finished, the plates were quickly cleared. The place was modern and fresh and was similar upstairs. If you plan to visit though there is one thing to watch out for, there are no toilets. A sign on the wall says so and after another look around it appeared to be very true. (If you do need a toilet there is one in the food court next door).

We have been in Exeter for the weekend visiting a friend and taking the opportunity to vistis a couple of 'spoons too. This morning and part of the afternoon we have been in Exmouth walking... Walking is not a usual activity for myself or Mrs S. but the friend we are visiting is a keen walker and knows many interesting places in the area and she was right, we did enjoy it. We had walked along the cliff top and then made our way down to the beach where I was trying to tempt the ladies into having an ice-cream. They declined saying we were going to have lunch soon and unusually I also refrained. Lunch was in The Powder Monkey. The pub was very busy when we arrived and it took a few minutes to find a table but we eventually did and I ordered a Chilli dog and large Pepsi for me and a Baked potato and pulled pork filling with a large Pepsi for Mrs S. The pub was small and dark but comfortable and we ended up staying for quite a while, infact by the time we left the afternoon crowed had left and we were almost on our own. It always feels a bit sad when we leave Exeter, we don't get to see our friend as often as we would like and the weekends never seem long enough (although most weekends never seem long enough) but hopefully we will get to see her again in July when we have a trip to North Devon planned.

I was really looking forwards to visiting Chard as it was a place I had a lot of memories of. About twenty years ago I used to work there and it is probably that long since I last visited the place and I was keen to see how it had changed. Definitely one of the changes was the addition of a Wetherspoons. As it turned out a few of the shops had changed but on the whole it was very much as I remembered it and Mrs S. quickly got bored with me pointing to various places and saying, "I remember that place". We went into the pub where I had a pint of Bombardier and Mrs S. had a regular Pepsi. We didn't stay long as we had spent so long at the previous pub we were already going to have to skip the third one I had planned or else we would be very late meeting up with our friend in Exeter.

We have a friend in Exeter that has invited us to stay for the weekend so we were up early this morning intending to try and make the three-ish hour journey in less than six hours while visiting up to three Wetherspoon pubs on the way. As usual we didn't manage to set off quite as early as we had planned so we reached the first pub on our trip a little later than we intended. After parking up we made our way to the pub, which turned out to be quite busy. Thanks to an efficient and very friendly bar lady we were served quickly and were soon sitting down enjoying a traditional breakfast and a large latte each. The pub was narrower and longer than I expected from looking at it from the outside but was bright and comfortable and we maybe stayed a little longer than we should have. As it turned out this would have a knock on effect later!
